Discover The Apex Dance Studio Difference
Finding the right activity for your child is key to their development. Our Junior Program offers a unique blend of benefits that builds a foundation for lifelong success, blending artistry with athleticism in a way other activities can't.
Traditional sports often emphasize physical skills and competition, sometimes overlooking important aspects of emotional growth, creativity, and personal character development.
Team sports can sometimes create an environment where less skilled players feel excluded or discouraged due to competitive pressures and selective play.
The emphasis on winning in traditional sports can detract from the enjoyment of the activity and the development of important values like teamwork and fair play.
In team sports, the focus is often spread across many players, which can limit individual attention and personalized coaching.
Dance builds powerful physical strength, flexibility, and coordination. At the same time, it provides a crucial outlet for creativity and emotional expression, developing the whole child.
Our program focuses on personal achievement. As dancers master new steps and techniques at their own pace, they build genuine self-confidence and learn that dedication leads to measurable results.
We emphasize collaboration over high-pressure competition. Dancers learn to work together, support their peers, and celebrate group success, building valuable social skills in a positive environment.
Our expert instructors provide personal attention to every dancer. We actively teach the discipline required to listen, show respect, and apply feedback essential life skills that lead to success both in and out of the studio.
Developing Grace, Posture, and Discipline
Ballet is the bedrock of all dance training, providing the core technique that allows a dancer to excel in any style. In our Junior Program, students move beyond basic positions and begin to assemble the building blocks of true ballet artistry.
Parents can expect to see their dancer progress in:
- Proper Terminology: Confidently learning and using the French vocabulary for steps, positions, and movements.
- Barre Work: Building strength, alignment, and balance through foundational exercises at the ballet barre.
- Center Technique: Executing movements like adagio (slow) and allegro (fast) with increasing control and without barre support.
- Preparation for Turns and Leaps: Establishing the core stability and placement needed to safely execute more advanced steps.
Where Energy Meets Artistry
Our Junior Jazz class channels your child’s energy into powerful and expressive movement. This is where students learn to command attention, master rhythm, and really begin to perform. We focus on developing the sharp, dynamic style that makes jazz so exciting.
Key skills your child will develop include:
- Rhythmic Isolations: Mastering control of specific body parts to create sharp, clean movements in time with the music.
- Across-the-Floor Progressions: Executing signature jazz walks, shuffles, and kicks with style and personality.
- Fundamental Turns and Leaps: Learning the correct preparation and execution for popular skills like pirouettes and grand jetés.
- Learning Choreography: Building their ability to quickly memorize and perform fun, upbeat dance combinations set to popular music.
Strength, Flexibility, and Tumbling
Acro dance impressively blends classical dance technique with the athleticism of precision acrobatic elements. Safety and proper progression are our top priorities. Our instructors are trained to guide students step-by-step through skills as they build the necessary strength and flexibility.
Our curriculum focuses on building a solid foundation through:
- Foundational Tumbling: Safely learning and perfecting skills like forward rolls, cartwheels, and bridges.
- Building Flexibility: Practicing targeted stretches that improve range of motion for skills like backbends and splits.
- Strength and Conditioning: Developing the essential core and upper body strength required for skills like handstands and walkovers.
- Certified Syllabus: Following the globally recognized Acrobatic Arts syllabus to ensure a safe and logical skill progression for every student.
Developing Confidence and Stage Presence
Learning technique is just the first step. Our Junior Program focuses on translating those skills into confident performance, teaching dancers how to captivate an audience. This is where they learn that dance is not just about the steps, but about telling a story.
We prepare dancers for the stage by focusing on:
- Learning and Retaining Choreography: Moving beyond single steps to cohesively learn, remember, and perform full routines.
- Spatial Awareness: Understanding formations, spacing, and how to move as a unified group on stage.
- Developing Artistry: Learning to use facial expressions and emotion to project confidence and connect with the audience.
- Recital Performance: Gaining invaluable on-stage experience by showcasing their hard work at our exciting annual dance recital.
